On December 27, 2023, Mary Wong, a 63-year-old single mother of two, was walking home from work when she was struck by a vehicle. She was only two blocks away from her house.

The incident happened around 7:50p at Huntsman Blvd. and Bridle Wood Drive in West Springfield. The driver did not slow down or stop to help Wong. Instead, she was left on the side of the road for an unknown period of time until a Good Samaritan in a white Chevy Tahoe stopped to help and called 911.

Today, Wong is still in a coma fighting for her life with trauma to the brain and multiple spinal fractures. Speaking to Very Asian, a family friend has confirmed that Wong has not shown signs of neurological improvement, and the family has made the difficult decision to transition their mother to end-of-life comfort care.

After losing her husband two years ago, Wong has been caring for her two children, David and Jeanie, as a single mother. She has been described as “a loving mother who is kind hearted, caring, and a very loyal Christian who has been a big part of her church community.”

“She’s just very warm,” Jeanie Wong said to NBC4 Washington. “She would always ask people if they were hungry so she could find a reason to cook something in the kitchen and overfeed us.”

“They took our definition of home away from us,” David Wong added. “If you have any sort of self-conscience, I hope you step up and just admit to it.”

So far, authorities have very few leads but the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run incident is believed to be an older model sedan with damage to the driver’s side headlight.

If you have any information, please contact the Fairfax County Police via phone at 1-866-411-TIPS or by texting 'TIP187' to CRIMES (274637).

A family friend has set up a GoFundMe to assist the family during this unimaginable time.
