James Hong honored at the TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX in Hollywood

James Hong added his handprints and footprints in cement at the TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX in Hollywood as he celebrated his 95th Birthday!

The prolific actor’s career spans seven decades and he has more than 600 acting credits.

"When I first came here in 1953… the first thing I did was come here and try all the footprints,” Hong recalled in a speech at the ceremony. “I put mine on top of John Wayne's -- too big for me. Jimmy Stewart -- too large. But now, today, I have my own size.”

Fellow actor Lucy Liu was at the ceremony to help James celebrate.

“James Hong’s career, spanning over seven decades, is a triumph over the systemic racism and discrimination that pervaded Hollywood for much of his life,” Lucy said. “Born in 1929, when radio was the only source of entertainment, he came of age at a time when Asian Americans faced blatant exclusion and prejudice. From the era of yellowface to the limitations placed on roles for Asian actors, he navigated a landscape marred by stereotypes and injustice with remarkable grace and fortitude. He defied the odds, in an industry dominated by homogeneity. Congratulations James, on having your foot and handprints immortalized at the Chinese Theatre - a well earned recognition in history. Filled with pride to be there for this important moment!”

Congratulations, James. Happy Birthday and to many more!
