Based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, HBO describes ‘The Sympathizer’ as “an espionage thriller and cross-culture satire about the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his resulting exile in the United States.”
“Near the end of the Vietnam War, a plant who was embedded in the South Vietnam army flees to the United States and takes up residence in a refugee community, where he continues to secretly spy and report back to the Viet Cong,” the show summary reads.
‘The Sympathizer’ premieres April 14 on Max.
